Alvin E. Brandt was born October 21, 1921 at Avon, SD, the son of David and Caroline “Lena” (Bredehoft) Brandt. He died Sunday, November 27, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Society in Tyndall, SD. Alvin attained the age of 90 years, one month and six days.
Alvin married Dorothy Schulz at the ZIon Lutheran Church in Hurley on October 17, 1948. Together they farmed.
Alvin was a faithful, lifetime member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Avon, where he served as treasurer for many years. He was an Archer Oil dealer for 50 years and also served as the county manager for Archer Oil. Alvin was also a Meadow View Manor board member.
Alvin will be remembered for his love of being with his family, the outdoors, camping, fishing, hunting, reading, gardening and rock collecting.
Thankful for having shared his life are his wife Dorothy of Avon; daughter, Diane (John) Boheman of Sioux Falls; son, Arlen (Sharon) Brandt of Emery; four grandchildren; two step grandchildren; two great grandchildren; seven step great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Betty Scherer of Sioux Falls; and sister, Bertha Timmens of Tyndall.
Alvin was preceded in death by his son, Ronald Brandt on December 20, 1979; parents; sister, Rosella Powers; and brothers-in-law: Homer Timmens and Lester Powers.
Funeral services are 10:30 A.M., Friday, December 2, 2011 at Zion Lutheran Church in Avon. Burial is in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, rural Avon. Visitation is at the church on Thursday from 4 PM until 7 PM, followed by a 7 PM Prayer Service. Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Chapel in Avon is in charge of arrangements.
