Kathrine Marie (Grace) Traudt was born March 1, 1885, at Central City, Neb. to Peter & Margaretha Traudt. She grew up in Stockham, Neb, where she was married to Fred Wahl on Dec. 30, 1908. The couple moved to Wessington Springs, SD in the spring of 1920 and farmed in Jerauld County until 1947, at which time she moved to Sioux Falls. Mrs. Wahl passed away in Feb of 1958. Grace served as associate matron at the women's cottage at the S.D. Penitentiary in 1948. She was an outstanding seamstress having worked at the former Johnson Furniture Store in the drapery Dept. Later she established her own drapery Business from her Daughter home with whom she lived for 34 years. Mrs. Wahl was in drapery making until she was 94 years old when her eyesight failed. She had been in failing health since July of 1979 and moved to Luther Manor in Jan of 1982. Grace had been an active member of the Methodist Church since 1913 and a member of First United Methodist church of Sioux Falls and United Methodist Women. Her survivors include her daughter, Mrs. Lawrence Eagle of Sioux Falls; a sister, Mrs. Ida Rumbaugh of Loveland and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, 6 sisters and 6 brothers and also 2 half-brothers. (obit) 17 Dec 1983
