Charles S. Daley, 75, of 240 Orchard Circle, died Monday, Nov. 24, 1997, at Waynesboro Hospital, Waynesboro, Pa. Born Jan. 15, 1922, in Greencastle, he was the son of the late Charles R. and Edna B. Dentler Daley. He worked as a route salesman for Capitol Bakers in Chambersburg, Pa., from 1943 to 1955. From 1956-1963 he operated Daley's Sunoco Service Station in Greencastle and owned and operated Hagerstown Kitchen Cabinets in the early 1960s. Earlier he worked for Greencastle Cannery and Omwake and Oliver Elevator in Greencastle. He was a police officer in Greencastle, and was chief of police from 1973 until his retirement in 1979. He was a member of Greencastle Church of the Brethren. He was a member of Rescue Hose Co. No.1, Greencastle, Harry D. Zeigler Veterans of Foreign War of Greencastle, and Fraternal Order of Police Tri-County Lodge No. 76. He is survived by his wife, Hazel E. Pittman Daley, whom he married June 6, 1942; four daughters, Patricia A. Clower of Bunker Hill, W.Va., Barbara Stoner of Clarksville, Tenn., Ginger E. McDonough of Greencastle, and Susan M. Black of Melbourne, Fla.; three sisters, Mildred Plum and Viola Plum, both of Greencastle, and Lorraine Helfrick of Waynesboro, Pa.; two brothers, Ellis F. Daley of Greencastle and Russell E. Daley of Waynesboro; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Charles Kenneth Daley; an infant daughter, Nancy Lou Daley; one brother, Alvin Daley; and two sisters, Janet Barnhart and Hazel Bowser. Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle. The Rev. Charles A. Schroer will officiate. Burial will be in Shank's Church of the Brethren Cemetery, near Greencastle. The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice."
