Galen was born in Burley, Idaho, and was the oldest of three boys. He learned the value of hard work at a young age when he started his own hay hauling business while in high school. After graduating from school in Rupert, Idaho, Galen married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Miller, in February 1972. Thus began a new chapter in Galen's life with starting a family and developing an agriculture business. In 1977, Galen, Nancy and their two daughters moved to Pasco, Wash. Soon his family grew with the addition of two sons while his ag business, Hieb Spraying, prospered. Galen loved his family, especially his grandchildren; he also enjoyed fishing, listening to music, barbecuing and spending time with his numerous friends. Family and friends gathered frequently at the Hieb house for potlucks with Galen in full charge of the grill. Galen touched many lives with his kind heart and generous spirit. He told great stories about escapades in his younger days. He loved life and lived it to the fullest.
Galen is survived by Nancy; and his children, Rebecca and Marc Ramsey, Sara Hieb, John and Leslie Hieb and Michael Hieb; and his beloved grandchildren, Nickolas and Adam Ramsey and Austin and Addison Hieb. Galen also leaves behind his mother, Bonnie Hieb; and brothers, Dennis (Carol) Hieb and Jeff (Natalie) Hieb; in-laws, David Miller and Marcia Miller; and nephews and nieces, Stephen, Benjamin and Curtis Hieb, Brandon (Christina) Miller, Danna Cox and Lodie Steen. He is preceded in death by his father, Theodore Hieb.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 28, at Mueller's Greenlee Funeral Home in Pasco, Wash. The service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, June 29, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kennewick, Wash., with interment to follow at Desert Lawn Memorial Park.
