Mrs Hannah Gustafson was born at Andover, Illinois, Oct 6, 1866 and passed away last Friday at the noon hour, Feb 13, 1931 at the age of 64 years, 4 months and 7 days.
Mrs Gustafson was confirmed at the Lutheran church at Andover, May 9, 1880. Early in the spring of 1882, she together with her parents arrived at Edgar, Clay County, Nebraska and has lived in Edgar and the Edgar vicinity since that time.
Nov 18, 1913, she was married to Mr A T Gustafson of Edgar. Mr Gustafson passed away almost seven years ago. The last year she has lived with her brothers, Victor and August Slatt at the home northwest of Edgar.
Mrs Gustafson was a faithful and devoted member of the Gethsemane Lutheran Church of Edgar from the very beginning of the congregation in Feb 1882 and was transferred the membership of the congregation when the church was moved from Edgar to Ong in 1922 which is now the Gethsemane Lutheran Church of Ong.
Thus she has been a member of the Lutheran church ever since her baptism until her death.
Those who are left to mourn her departure are her sister, Mrs Charley Erickson and two brother, August and Victor Slatt all of Edgar, Two sister and two brothers have gone on before to that heavenly home where suffering and sorrow are no more. She leaves also a great number of relatives living in California and at Edgar, Ong, Oakland, Wakefield, Funk, near and at Lincoln, Nebraska and a host of near and dear friends.
She will be sadly missed in her home, in her beloved church and in her circle of friends. Mrs Gustafson was a devoted soul to both her God and to her fellowman. She lived a triumphant life with profound faith and simple trust in her Lord. Jesus was her special friend. Interesting, considerate and pleasant, it was a real pleasure to converse with her. She sincerely loved her church and sacrificed freely for the kingdom. She had a beautiful vision of the missionary program of the church. Humbly and honorably and with a exquisite measure of reverence she loved to say just a word for her God and for her Christ. To her the church was Christ's institution and the man in the pulpit was an ambassador of Christ. Faithful, devoted and untiring in her service to her God and to her fellowman she has left for that glorious world that God has prepared for those who love Him. Fighting the good fight of faith we trust we shall see her again with Jesus in Glory.
Funeral services were held at the home at 1:30 and at the church in Ong at 2:30 Sunday afternoon, Feb 15, 1931. He pastor, Rev Henning L Hassel of Ong spoke in the Swedish language using as his text II Cor 5:1 and in the English language using as his text Isaiah 55: 8-9, on the theme, "The greater thinking and the greater wisdom."
Mrs Emmert Nelson, Mrs Harry Pearson, Mr Algot Peterson and Mrs A L Swanson rendered very touchingly and feelingly some of Mrs Gustafson's favorite hymns.
Interment was made in the Edgar Cemetery.
