Inga Marie Slatt Erickson was born May 21, 1856 at Andover, Illinois and passed away at Edgar, Nebraska April 24, 1936 at the age of 79 years, 11 month sand 4 days. She grew to womanhood at Andover where she was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. She was married to Charles O Erickson, March 29, 1879. To this union seven children were born, two of which preceded her to the Greater World, Theodore at seven months and Arthur at 24 years of age.
In the spring of 1882 Mrs Erickson with her husband come to Nebraska, living in Clay County for four years, when they moved to Nuckolls County, where they lived for 24 years, and came back to Clay county in 1906, living on their farm east of Edgar and west of Ong, until the time of her death.
Left to mourn her departure are her husband, Charles O Erickson, five children, four sons, Henry, Ebburt, Luther and Ernest, all of Edgar and one daughter, Mrs Esther Pearson of Shickley, Nebraska, two brothers, August and Victor Slatt, of Edgar, 18 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and many near and dear friends.
Mrs Erickson was a charter member of the Gethsemane Lutheran church of Ong, which was organized at Edgar, Nebraska in 1882. Throughout the 54 years of the congregations existence she has been a faithful and devoted member and though illness during the last years of her life did not allow her to be present very often at the services, she nevertheless was always deeply concerned about the welfare and the work of the congregation. With her husband, Mr Erickson, she always faithfully and cheerfully assisted him to care for the tender plant they had been largely instrument to organize at Edgar in those early pioneer days, which is now the Gethsemane Lutheran church of Ong, to which place it was transplanted in 1922.
The pastor shall never forget the many beautiful and wonderful devotional hours enjoyed in her cheerful Christian way. With her keenly observant and happily devoted husband to the great work of the kingdom of God she was always faithfully building an eternal cathedral upon the solid foundation, the Rock of the Ages, Christ Jesus, The Son of God and the Saviour of the world. We shall miss her in the home, church and in the community. However if we are but faithful unto the end we shall meet her again in the eternal exquisite city of God.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 27th from the home at 2 o'clock and at the church at Ong at 2:30. The Rev Henning L Hassell, her pastor of the last twelve years of her life, chose as the text, Rev 14:13 speaking on the theme: "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord."
Mrs Carl Ericson, Mrs Emmert Nelson, Mrs Kenneth Peterson and Floyd and Kenneth Peterson conveyed beautiful and comforting messages in the songs that were rendered. There were "Safe in the Arms of Jesus, "Vid Jesu Hjarta dar ar lungt," solo by Mrs Nelson, and "We Shall Sleep but Not Forever." Songs rendered at the home were: "There is a Gate That Stands Ajar," and "Nearer Still Nearer."
We humbly thank God for a beautiful life whose noble deeds live on and on into the eternal world. Peace be to the memory of her victorious life. Interment was in the Edgar cemetery.
