Carl Gust Folkens was born Nov. 17, 1922, to Siert and Grace (Vogel) Folkens at Malta Township at Clinton. He attended the United Methodist Church at Clinton.
He married Marlys Christians Jan. 25, 1945, at Clinton. He served in the U.S. Army from Feb. 17, 1945, to Aug. 6, 1946, serving in Okinawa and Korea. He returned home after the service where he began to farm. He drove school bus for the Clinton Public School system for many years. He served on the ASCS Board. He was a commander and a 50-year plus member of the American Legion Post 258. He was an active member of the United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed going to his grandchildren's activities as well as playing cards, dancing and visiting with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Marlys; five children, Charles (Donna) Folkens of Big Lake, Linda (Richard) Ehrenberg of Correll, Judy (Donald) Puffer of Southwick, Ma., Douglas (Sharon) Folkens of Hector and Barbara (Jim) Hannes of Litchfield; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Orland (Rita) Folkens of Ortonville, Harold Folkens of Clinton, Jay (Doris) Folkens of Clinton and two sisters, Dorothy (Don) Tesch of Beardsley and Leola Lovgren of Ortonville.
