Alias: Bennett Family Gardens, Old Bennett Family
This cemetery is located in Mesquite, Texas on the north side of Lake June Road just east of L. B. J. Freeway (I-635). The first burial was in 1847 of Terniece C. Bennett on a hilltop on the farm of her parents, William Hardy Bennett and Sydney Manning Bennett. What started as a family burial ground was soon being used by extended family members and neighbors. After the Bennetts sold the farm the cemetery remained active. Many of the early settlers of eastern Dallas County are buried here.
The Laurel Land Corporation purchased the cemetery and additional surrounding land in the early 1950s and renamed it the Bennett Memorial Park. After two years, the name changed again to Laurel Oaks Cemetery with the original Bennett Family Cemetery renamed "Bennett Memorial Gardens."
"The Old Bennett Family Cemetery, Mesquite, Dallas County, Texas" is now known as the Bennett Family Gardens within Laurel Oaks Memorial Park. This cemetery within a cemetery is still active and used by the descendants of the extended Bennett family.
