Rose, a prominent German-American farmer living two miles northeast of Bloomfield was killed Friday afternoon, while harrowing in his field. He went out to his work after dinner. About 6 o'clock his wife went out to the barn and discovered his team standing hitched to the harrow near a fence. On going over to the team, she found the dead body of her husband, lying on the implement with his head under the harrow between two bars. Evidently he had been dead for several hours as the body was cold and stiff. It is not known how the accident occurred. On examining the field, it was found Rose had made only one round of the field after dinner. The supposition is that he stumbled and fell over on the harrow, which stunned him. While he was in an unconscious condition the team walked toward his barn. There was nothing to show that the team had run away. Mr. Rose was an exemplary citizen in every way.
