Roger Phillip Frohardt of Dearborn, formerly of Royal Oak, passed away on October 16, 2010 in Detroit, after a two month illness. Born in Omaha on February 27, 1922, he was a Valedictorian of the 1939 Omaha Central High School Class. In 1943, he graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Grinnell College. After receiving a medical discharge from the army, he attended graduate school at Columbia University in New York City and received a Masters degree in chemistry. In 1947, he moved to Detroit with his wife, the former Barbara Bowersox, to take a position with Parke-Davis and Company. In 1974, he graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in pharmacy. After living in Royal Oak from 1950 to 1975, Roger and Barbara moved to Commerce Township and then to Dearborn in 1998.
Roger was a regular blood donor until shortly before his final illness, and he generously supported many local, national, and international charities. He is survived by two sons, Daniel (Katharine) Frohardt-Lane of Royal Oak and Allen Frohardt of Sunnyvale, California. Other survivors include two grandchildren, David Frohardt-Lane of Singapore and Sarah Frohardt-Lane (Andy Bruno) of Urbana, Illinois, as well as nine nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, who died in 2006. The last of his five siblings died last year. Plans for a Memorial Service are incomplete at this time. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Southeastern Michigan Chapter of the American Red Cross, 100 Mack Avenue, P.O. Box 44110, Detroit, MI 48244.
