Eldon C. Wenger, age 89, of Fredericktown, died peacefully, on Sunday afternoon, March 10, 2013, at Riverside Hospital following several months of illness.
On December 28, 1923, Eldon was born in Marion, Ohio, the second of eight children of the late William and Mary Elizabeth (Shantz) Wenger. He was raised in Logan County, where he graduated from Monroe High School in the Class of 1943.
During World War II, Eldon gave of his time to the Civilian Public Services in Luray, Virginia, working on a dairy farm and helping clear trees from the Appalachian Trail.
Upon the completion of his service, Eldon was introduced to a young lady, Alma Lehman, by his brother, Don Wenger, and her cousin, Ferne Lehman. Soon thereafter, they were married on May 15, 1947, in her hometown of Carlisle, Pennsylvania, at the Brethen in Christ Church. They resided there in Carlisle for several years, where he worked as a carpenter with the Lehman family and they started having a family. Together they shared 49 years of marriage and lovingly raised 9 children. She preceded him in death on July 30, 1996, and he missed sharing family stories with her ever since that day.
In 1955, Eldon and Alma moved as family to Morrow County to run the England dairy farm. A hard working man, he milked dairy cattle there and at their farm on SR 314 for over 40 years. After retiring from milking cattle, Eldon then helped his sons and grandchildren in the Wenger Builders carpentry business for 15 years. He loved this time traveling the United States with his family. He was a member of the Morrow County Dairy Association and the State Dairy Association, where he formerly held offices.
Beginning in farming using draft horses, Eldon carried his love of draft horses throughout his life. He tended to and trained many draft horses over the years, using some in local parades. He was a past member of the Morrow County Draft Horse Association.
Able to put together and fix just about anything, Eldon loved finding a good deal on an old antique tractor, buying it, then restoring it to make it as good as new. He especially loved giving rides to his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren in a wagon pulled with his antique tractors. He was a member of the Morrow County Antique Tractor Association.
Most important of all to Eldon was his family. For the past 16 years after Alma's passing, he always scheduled special holiday events, because he loved to be surrounded by the 100 children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren in his immediate family.
Eldon will be dearly missed by his eight beloved children: Karen (Gary) Pfile of Freeport, IL, Keith Wenger of Bellville, Leslie (Patsy) Wenger of Galion, Alan (Thresa) Wenger of Bellville, Beth (Dean) Jagger, Dotty (Mike) Goff, both of Mount Gilead, Luann (John) Watts of Edison, and Dale (Wendy) Wenger of Bellville; a daughter-in-law, Marcia Wenger of Fredericktown; 26 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren with three more on the way; three sisters: Hazel Lehman of Lancaster County, PA, Libby (Kenny) Carpenter of Bellefontaine, and Ruth (Joe) Stickrod of Ennis, MT; three sisters-in-law: Ferne Wenger of Mount Vernon, Donna Wenger of West Liberty, and Shirley Wenger of Bellefontaine; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Including his wife and parents, Eldon was preceded in death by his son, Bill Wenger; an infant daughter, Phyllis Wenger; four brothers: Don, Kenny, Bill and Marion Wenger; and his daughter-in-law, Linda Wenger.
The Wenger family will greet friends from 4 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2013, at the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. Services celebrating his life will also be held there on Friday at 11:00 a.m., with his niece-in-law, Rev. Tami Wenger officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Memorial Park in Lexington.

Joseph and Annie lived near Greenvillage, a small town a few miles north of Chambersburg, for seventeen years. While there all their children except the youngest, Grace, were born. In 1906 they moved to the farm on Longs Gap Road and there raised their family. The farm was passed down in the family. Eight acres of the farm were donated to the Carlisle Brethren in Christ Church and developed as the J.O. Lehman Retreat Center in recognition of Joseph and Annie's significant contribution to the life and growth of the church.

As of 1919, his residence that he farmed was at Lot 1, West Half, 3rd Concession, Whitchurch Township, but he also farmed Lot 8, Rear Concession 5, Whitchurch Township, York County, Ontario, Canada.
Peter Steckley`s address was Bethesda, Ontario and as there was no rural mail he found it necessary to go to the Bethesda Post Office several times a week, a distance of two miles. About 1912 there was talk of rural mail delivery and Mr. Steckley made himself responsible to solicit every home on the proposed route. This route would follow the 5th Line, north from the Bethesda Post Office to the Aurora side road, east to the 6th Line and south to what is known as the Bethesda Road, then east to the 7th Line and North to the Lemonville Post Office. Mr. Steckley obtained about fifty names on his petition and was successful in obtaining sanction from the Post Office officials for the forming of what is known as Rural Route #4, Stouffville, Ontario.
Mr. Steckley was chosen Bishop at Heise Hill Brethren in Christ Church in 1911 and held that office until his death in 1924.

Joseph K. Lehman - On the 22nd of December, 1893, at her home in Green Village, Franklin co., of the grippe of which she suffered about ten days, Leah, wife of Joseph Lehman, Aged 78 yrs., 2 mos., 25 days. She was a faithful member in the Brethren in Christ (River Brethren) denomination and mother of Bro.J.S. Lehman, business manager of the Mennonite Publishing House. A few days before her last sickness came she literally "put her house in order," and made arrangements as if she were going away on a visit, so that her friends were surprised, not knowing that she had any intention of going away. Soon after she took sick she said, "This may be a Christmas funeral," and so it proved to be. During her sickness she earnestly admonished all who came to see her to make "their calling and election sure." As the time of her departure drew near she became overwhelmed with the glory of the blest and in rapture she exclaimed, "O happy, happy place!" She was fully resigned to God's will and said, "The time of health and strength is the time to prepare for death. Then, when the message comes to go, it will be a welcome one. "Thirty minutes before her death she carefully smoothed down her hair under her prayer head covering which she adjusted and tied neatly. She entreated those around her not to mourn, for she said all was well with her. She was conscious to the last, and when she was gone we felt that a dear mother in Israel had left us, yet her kind and timely words of advice and her noble example will continue to live and speak while her form moulders in the grave. Her matrimonial life of 58 years was a happy one. Her husband, 4 children and many children of the third and fourth generation survice her. Buried on the 25. Funeral services by Martin Oberholtzer assised by others.

Abraham, with the assistance of his father Isaac, built a two-story log house one mile north of Strasburg, Pa., on the tract which was to be in his inheritance at the time of his father's death. But dying in 1735 before its completion, his father finished the building, and thus its remains are the only tangible work left of our French ancestor Isaac LeFevre of 1669. The house stood a little west of the present brick dwelling erected in 1836, and the foundation, even with the surface of the ground, is shown to visitors. A dozen or more of the great logs from the building, some measuring twenty-one inches wide, are still in the large bank barn built in 1837, the year following the erection of the brick house by George, the great-grandson of Isaac and the the grandfather of the Compiler, George N. LeFevre, who remodeled the house in 1891.

Zunächst lebten sie am Quassick Creek im Dutchess County, dann in New Paltz im Staat New York. Marie de la Warenbourg blieb noch in London, um von William Penn persönlich einen Landtitel zu erwerben. Im Mai 1709 folgte sie ihrer Familie nach Amerika. 1712 zogen alle zusammen ins Pequea Valley. Sie nannte ihren Besitz 2000 Acres ( 810 Hektar ) ihr " Paradies ". 1716 wurde sie dort auf dem Familienfriedhof bestattet.
