Peter Leslie Lovegrove was born to Frank Thomas Lovegrove and Lucy Mae (Pierson) Lovegrove on December 7, 1897, at Liberty Township,Fillmore County, and passed away July 1, 1988, at Fairview Manor in Fairmont, at the age of 90 years, 6 months and 24 days. He was one of 6 children in the family.
At an early age he moved with his parents to a farm near Milligan, where he attended rural school District 6 and Milligan High School. In the spring of 1917, he moved with his parents to a farm northeast of Fairmont.
After his marriage, he and his bride moved to a farm one mile south of his parents, where he remained until moving their farm home into town in August of 1974.
Pete was a member of the National Guard and was at the depot to board the train for service during World War I, when word was received that the war was over, and the Armistice had been signed.
He was married to Pearl Pauline Hill of Fairmont, on September5, 1923, at Glenwood, Ia., and to them three children were born.
He enjoyed his farming activity up to the time of his retirement. Baseball was one of his delights, having played the game every Sunday afternoon. Later he enjoyed the games on TV, especially the World Series.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Fairmont. He was a kind and loving husband and father, always willing to lend a helping hand to a neighbor in time of need.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lucy Lovegrove; his wife, Pearl; one brother, Marion Lovegrove; and three sisters, Pearl and Edith Lovegrove and Ruth Stetina.
He is survived by one son, Duane Lovegrove; two daughters, Mrs. Melvin (Maxine) Ackerman; and Mrs. James (Eileen) Row; one sister, Mrs. Leo (Nellie) Winkler; nine grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
