Leona Bowersox, 85 years old, passed away in Lexington, Kentucky, on August 8, 2012. She moved to San Diego in 1946 following her husband, Bill Bowersox's discharge from the Army.
They lived in Lemon Grove where they raised their family and were active contributors to the community for 44 years. Leona retired in 1987 as the Assistant Superintendent of Business, Lemon Grove School District. Following her retirement, they moved to Florissant, Colorado, where she volunteered at the Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument.
She lost her husband of almost 52 years, in June 1996. Leona moved with her daughter to Lexington, KY in 2008. She was predeceased by her oldest daughter, Judith L. Cherry.
A family memorial service will be held on August 24, 2012, at 10 a.m. in the Three Trees Chapel, Littleton, Colorado, followed by inurnment in the Littleton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Friends of the Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument, P.O. Box 851, Florissant, CO 80816.
