Barbara G. Knipp, age 96, formerly of Scott City, died Dec. 6, 2013, at the Buhler Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community. Barbara was born Feb. 8, 1917, in Wichita, the daughter of Samuel Martin and Grace Anastasia Dillon Conner. She graduated from St. Mary's Cathedral High school in 1934, and Venus Beauty Academy in 1935, both in Wichita. She married Gilbert H. Knipp on June 14, 1939, in Wichita. He died Dec. 13, 2012.
She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, El Quartelejo Study Club, Busy Bee Quilters, Scott County Museum, Scott County Quilters Club, church Altar Society, Daughters of Isabella, and the Scott County 4-H Club.
She is survived by: sons, Dan of Dodge City, John and his wife Jane of Hutchinson, and Sam and his wife Leah of Edmond, Okla.; daughters, Sue Richenburg and husband Ben of Muscotah, Ks, Anita Bernbeck and husband Gary of Grand Junction, Colo., and Ruth Van Pelt and husband Ryan of Great Bend, Ks; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a brother, two sisters, and a grandchild.
Friends may sign the register book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday with the family to receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary, 1219 North Main, Hutchinson. Rosary will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday Dec. 11, 2013, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Scott City. Funeral mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. with Father Bernard Felix presiding. Burial will be in Scott City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the church or the El Quartelejo Museum, both in care of the mortuary.
