J Eldon Yung, 75, of Warrensburg, Mo., died Nov 20, at Country Club Care Center, Warrensburg.
He was born Feb 17, 1931, in Guide Rock, Neb., the son of John and Golda (Rouse) Yung.
Mr Yung graduated from Guide Rock High School in May, 1949. He received a bachelor of arts in education in 1958 and a master of arts degree in education both from Nebraska State Teachers College, Kearney, doctor of education degree from University of Missouri at Columbia in 1965. From 1949 to 1951 he played minor league professional baseball for the Kansas-Oklahoma-Missouri (KOM) Baseball League.
On March 9, 1951, he married Darlene Opal Payne in Guide Rock. She died May 11, 2005.
He served in the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1955 with overseas service in Japan.
From 1959 to 1961 he taught junior high industrial arts in Omaha. He was superintendent of schools at Holstein, from 1961 to 1963.
Mr Yung was a professor at central Missouri State University in Industrial technology, retiring in 1991. He was chair of the Department of Graphics from 1968 to 1977.
He served six years on the Warrensburg R-VI Board of Education serving both as president and vice-president.
Mr Yung was a director for Phi Delta Kappa District III Representative of West Central Missouri Genealogical Society and publications coordinator;member of the Sons of the American Revolution Martin Warren Chapter, Warrensburg, Missouri society of the S.A.R., Warrensburg of Wheels Car club, Lincoln & Continental Owners Club, member of First United Methodist Church and its Aldersgate Sunday school class.
Survivors include a daughter, Ronda Yung, Springfield, Mo., a son, Larry Yung, Warrensburg, five grandchildren, Kim Moore, Trudy Jessop, Marsha Larimer, Riley Yung and Brad Shackelford, three great-grandchildren, Triston Chamberlain, Jacey Jessop and Devin Jessop; two sisters, Mrs Marvin Meistrell (Carolyn), Manning, S.C., and Mrs Dick Barta (Joy), Independence, Kan.; a brother, Lowell Yung, Axtell, Neb.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers Wendell and Billie Yung.
Services were held Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Warrensburg with the Rev Dr Sally Haynes, officiating. Cremation followed.
Pall bearers were John Brooks, Riley Yung, Brad Shackelford, Levi Moore, Wyatt Larimer and Jim Jessop.
Private family burial was in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
Williams Funeral Chapel, Warrensburg, was in charge of arrangements.

Former Guide Rock resident Darlene Opal (Payne) Yung, 74, of Warrensburg, Mo., died Wednesday, May 11, 2005 at Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg.
Services are 2:30 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church in Warrensburg with the Rev David Norbury officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
Mrs Yung was born Feb 7, 1931, to Albert "Pete" and Dora E (Sholtz) Payne in Guide Rock. She graduated from Guide Rock High School in 1949. On March 9, 1951, she married J Eldon Yung in Guide Rock. She was secretary to the campus minister at Wesley Foundation at Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg and had worked for H and R Block.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Aldersgate Sunday school class and Open Book Fellowship Group. She was a past regent of the Warrensburg Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution and was membership chairwoman of West Central Missouri Genealogical Society.
Survivors are her husband; one daughter, Ronda Yung of Springfield, Mo.; on son, Larry of Warrensburg; one brother, Ron of Downs, Kan.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Memorials may be given to the American Stroke Association or the Welch-Schmidt Center for Communication Disorders in care of the Central Missouri State University Foundation.

Sutton resident Melvin A. Griess, 71, died Sunday, November 13, 2011, at his home in Sutton, NE.
Services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 18, 2011, at Sutton Memorial Chapel with Pastor Philip Ehly officiating. Interment will be at the Sutton Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, November 17, 2011, from 2-8 pm, at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton, NE. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
Melvin A. Griess was born on October 29, 1940, in Fillmore County, NE., to Benjamin & Loretta (Griess) Griess. He received his education at Sutton Public Schools, where he graduated in the class of 1958. He was married to Elizabeth (Nuss) Griess and to this union 4 children were born. He was later married to Sandy (Muller) Griess.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Randal & Lisa Griess of Sutton, NE; daughters and son-in-laws, Rhonda & Cris Sahner of Omaha, NE; Ranae & Ric Stoakes of Lincoln, NE; step-son Ryan and his wife Becky Pollock of Lincoln, NE; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Sandy, daughter Rolene, a sister & 2 brothers.

Viola Magdalena Schlepp was born November 21, 1924 to Fred and Magdalena (Goetz) Schlepp in Java. She grew up an only child on a farm Northeast of Java and attended Hartman rural school.
She graduated from high school in Java in 1943. After graduation she taught rural school in the Adam School District in Walworth for two years. In 1946 she went to the West Coast working at a ship yard in Vancouver, WA and later at an Army Ordnance Depot in Stockton, CA living in Lodi. Due to the illness of her father she returned to her parent's farm.
She married Fred Mittleider on December 21, 1947. They lived on their farm near Java. In 1955 they moved to Mobridge. In 1976 after their six children were grown some and their youngest started kindergarten, she entered the work force outside her home, first as a custodian for Trinity Lutheran Church, then at the Plastic Factory.
In 1977 she started working at JC Penny's as a clerk and also in the catalog department. She retired in 1990. She was a Sunday school teacher and served on the General Election Board.
In April of 2006, Fred and Viola moved to Aberdeen to be closer to family. In October of 2009, they resided at the Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls.
Viola enjoyed reading and crocheting but most of all she enjoyed and loved her grandchildren. She loved to read to them and tell them stories and nursery rhymes. She also enjoyed watching her grandchildren play in sports.
Survivors include two sons Clyde (Cindy) Mittleider of Sioux Falls, SD, Jim (Monica) Mittleider of Gillette, WY; three daughters Peggy Zeadow of Bladen, NE, Susan Krell of Dakota Dunes, SD, and Bonnie (Terry) Lundberg of Aberdeen, SD; 18 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren.
Casketbearers will be Chad Huber ~ Eric Roebuck ~ Dexter Krell ~ Matthew Zeadow ~ Dustin Mittleider ~ Christopher Mittleider ~ Trever Lundberg
Honorary Bearers will be remaining grandchildren: Chad (Summer) Huber, Shawn (Shawn) Grismer, Shayne (Jesse) Huber, Courtney (Amanda) Huber, Marisa (Jason) L'Heareux, Matthew (Chris) Zeadow, Jodi (PJ) Mills, Farrgo Roebuck, Eric (Erin) Roebuck, Dexter Krell, Trisha (Randy) Crowley, Lisa (John) Clark, Christopher (Cara) Mittleider, Stacy (Richard) Visker, Dustin (Sarah) Mittleider, Tyler Lundberg, Trever Lundberg, and Tiffany Lundberg.
She was preceded in death by her husband Fred, by her daughter Marilyn Huber, her parents, and a son-in-law Mark Zeadow.
Viola will be buried alongside her husband Fred at the Black Hills National Cemetery, near Sturgis.
Viola was truly loved and will be greatly missed and will not be forgotten.
Funeral services for Viola Mittleider, age 87, of Sioux Falls and formerly of Mobridge will be at 10 AM, Friday, December 2, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mobridge. Burial will be at Black Hills National Cemetery at 2:30 MT under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. A prayer service will be at 7 PM, Thursday at the funeral home. Viola passed away Monday, November 28, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls.

Mrs. Mary Quenzer, 99, died June 28, 1985 at the Selby Good Samaritan Center. Services were July 2 at the Herreid Baptist church. Rev. Harry W. Johnson officiated. Burial in Fairview cemetery.
She was born June 22, 1886 near Yankton, SD. She was orphaned as an infant and adopted by the Karl Brockel family of Mound City. On Aug 17, 1907 she married Karl Quenzer at the Baptist parsonage in Herreid. He died in 1951.
Survivors are 6 sons, Arthur and Albert of Artas; Edward of Eureka; Johnnie of Herreid; Karl of Mobridge and Theodore of West Fargo, ND; 3 daughters, Mrs. Martha (Esther) Wiedmeier of Rupert, Idaho; Mrs. August (Martha) Renz of Herreid and Mrs. Irene Renz of Paul, Idaho ; 35 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter in infancy; 2 sons, Edwin in 1929 and Adam in 1975.

Betty Ellen Brandenburg of Wessington Springs, SD passed away Friday, March 12, 2010 at Sanford Health Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 77 years. Betty Vavra was born March 18, 1932 in Jackson County, South Dakota to Joseph and Lena Vavra. The family moved to Jerauld County in 1938. Betty's elementary school years were split between Hall and Longfellow country schools in Jerauld County. She graduated from Wessington Springs High School and went on to get her teaching degree from Wessington Springs Jr. College. Betty taught 1st through 8th grades at Nesmith and Viola Center country schools in the early 1950's. Betty married Mervyn Brandenburg on June 26th 1955 in Wessington Springs. Three daughters were born to this union; Leanne, Carla, and Shelley. Mervyn and Betty owned and operated the Idle Hour Tavern until 1964. For many years, Betty and Mervyn operated the Standard Oil business and accomplished a small farm business on the side. Betty worked at and later leased the City Liquor Store of Wessington Springs; retiring in 1994. She also drove school bus part-time for Wessington Springs Public School district at various times.
Betty enjoyed the outdoors and spent many hours hunting and fishing with her family. Betty was known to love card games and dancing. She enjoyed socializing with many friends at dances and card parties through the years. Family was priority and she attended all the activities her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were involved in. She was a great support to all family members.
Betty is survived by her husband Mervyn of Wessington Springs, and three daughters,
Leanne (Duane) Kopfmann of Alpena, SD, Carla (Rick) Leveque of Rapid City, SD, and Shelley (Mark) Fuerst of Wessington Springs, SD. Four grandchildren, Kandy (Doug) Flowers of Wessington Springs, SD, Andrea Kopfmann of Minneapolis, MN, Ericka Leveque of Rapid City, SD, Traci Orth of Wessington Springs, SD. Four Great Grandchildren, Chandler, Trinity, Branden, and Colby Flowers all of Wessington Springs, SD. One brother, Edward (Marilyn) Vavra of Wessington Springs, SD, sisters-in-law, several cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one nephew.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday March 16, 2010 at the United Methodist Church in Wessington Springs with pastor Jan Price officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the Basham Funeral Home Monday from 5-8 and at the church one hour prior to the service. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 PM Monday at the funeral home.
