Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2012, at 10:00am in the Zoar Congregational Church, in Mott, ND with Pastor Corey Warner officiating. Burial will be in Neuberg Congregational Church Cemetery north of Burt, ND. A family service will be held on Friday evening at 7:00 at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Mott. Serving as casketbearers are Richard Friesz, Emanuel Friesz, Mike Greff, Merle Hintz, Merlin Leithold, and Mark Klein. All friends and relatives are considered honorary bearers. Harold Hirning was born to Jacob and Clara Hirning on June 28, 1928, at the family farm north of Burt. He was raised on a farm 15 miles north of Burt, ND, and attended country school through the eighth grade. He married Bertha Friesz from Elgin, on October 26, 1958. They had three children. Harold and Bertha raised their three children, Morell, Bernell, and Scotty, on an 800-acre grain and cattle farm north of Burt; the same farm that was homesteaded by Harold's grandfather in the early 1900's. Oldest son Morell handled the cattle side of the operation and son Bernell handled the grain side. Harold was a member of the Neuberg Congregational Church north of Burt until it closed, and then became a member of Zoar Congregational Church in Mott until the time of his death. His hobbies and interest in his retirement years centered around his two collie dogs, and riding the four-wheeler around the farm. On Sunday mornings, you could find Harold near the kitchen table radio that was tuned into KBMR and the Old Time Polka music with Clarissa Lynne. He also liked to tune into a good rodeo on his satellite TV when he could find them. He is survived by his wife Bertha Hirning of Mott, son Morell Hiring of Mott, son Dr. Bernell Hirning of Fresno, CA; one nephew, Merlin Leithold of Elgin, ND; two cousins, Norman Hornberger of Park River, ND, and Letrice Grosz of Hazen, ND; two granddaughters, Kristi Hayhurst and husband Lucas of Omaha, NE, and Brittnee Nigg of Omaha, NE; and six great-grandsons, Jonathen, Jackzen, twins Bradly and Alexander, Thomus, and Evan, all of Omaha, NE. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Clara Hirning; one sister, Leona Leithold; two cousins, Lucille Tysver and Vernon Hornberger; and one son, Scotty Hirning. Visitation will be Friday 1 to 7 pm at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Mott and on Saturday one hour prior to services at Zoar Congregational Church. | Hirning, Harold (I112659)

| 117542 | www.findagrave.com: Burial: Oak Wood Cemetery North Ackley, Franklin County, Iowa, USA http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=18834841 The Tjaden family left Germany in 1854 arriving in New York City in August of that year according to son Kobus who later told the story. They came by train from New York to Freeport, Illinois, expecting to stay in the German Valley, Stephenson county area with their friends, the Ruters. There was illness in that family so they were put up with the Baals, who were relatives of the Ruters. These people had come to Illinois at least two years prior, it was said, and possibly earlier. From Freeport they came by covered wagon, drawn by oxen, to Hardin County, Iowa, where other German families had located. On 29 Sep 1854 they settled in the little settlement of Hazel Green (later known as Hardin City). At the time it consisted of one water-driven mill and one general store. Their journey is documented in the book "The East Friesens in America", by Kenneth H. De Wall, Jostens Printing, pages 189-193. Some years later the family settled in German Township, Grundy County, just east of Ackley, on the SW quarter of the SE quarter of Section 19 where they farmed. German Township was first called Orcutt, which was renamed in 1867. William Tjaden was elected township clerk in 1864, the second man in the office (the first being Charles Orcutt). William's name is entered as "Weet" Tjaden on the 1842 christening record of his son Kobus Tjaden in the German Church records at Emden. William was a teacher in the rural schools of Hardin and Grundy counties in Iowa. He also served as a notary and around 1870, on the Board of Supervisors for Grundy County, and as township clerk for German township. William was naturalized at Eldora, Hardin county, Iowa, but he is recorded under the name "William Jordan." Likewise, on page 532 of the 1856 Iowa State Census for Hardin County, Jackson Township, he is incorrectly listed as "William Jerden", age 43, born Germany his occupation given was wagon maker. These spelling errors make it hard to find him. He is recorded in the 1870 Iowa census for Grundy county, in German Township under dwelling 67, family 67. --- (Another birth date seen for him is given as 12 Aug 1812) DEATH: We are pained to announce the death of Wm. Tjaden, of German Township, Grundy county, which occurred last Friday. Mr. Tjaden was one of the prominent men of Grundy county and held various offices of trust. He is a supervisor of Grundy, just re-elected. - from an undated clipping | Tjaden, Wilhelm (I119552)
