Esther M. Weigel, 58, a resident of the Good Samaritan Home, died Friday, May 15 at St. Anthony Hospital.
She was born July 18, 1922 in Brighton, Colo., the daughter of Edward and Sophie (Schueler) Herman.
She married Gilbert Weigel Feb. 3, 1941 at Emmeram.
She was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Survivors include her husband, Hays; three sons, Dennis, Thomas and Gerald, all of Hays; one daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Norma) Schmidt, Wichita; three brothers, Robert, Pendleton, Ore. Edward, Salmon, Idaho, and Bill, San Bruno, Calif.; three sisters Mrs. Robert (Clementia) O’Grady, Clio, Mich., Mrs. Oran (Betty) Drake, Cheney, and Agnes, Hays; and 11 grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 9:30 a.m. Monday, May 18, 1981, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Burial was in St. Catherine Cemetery, Catherine.

Marlys Jean Brockell, 76, Minot, died Saturday, August 23, 2014 at her home in Minot.
Marlys was born on February 11, 1938, in Velva, ND, the daughter of Lars and Christine (Sanderson) Stenvold. She was raised in Velva until the age of 12 when the family moved to Minot. She later helped on the family farm in Harvey for a few years and then when she was 20 moved to Great Falls, Montana. Marlys was once married to Charles Blanchard. Marlys lived in Michigan for a few years and in 1975, moved back to Minot where she worked for the Ramada Inn for over 25 years.
Marlys married Richard Brockell in 1983. Richard passed away shortly after their marriage from an accidental fall.
Marlys’s grandchildren were the love of her life. She enjoyed the Norsk Hostfest, especially Bjoro Haaland, shopping at the mall, visiting friends and cross stitching.
Survivors: son, Bryon Blanchard; daughters, Christine Blanchard, Donna Patzner and Melody Johnson; four grandchildren; sisters, Laura Leibelt and June Sreitz.
Marlys’s was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; parents; and siblings, Mabel Coffeey, Selma Buethe, Marion Nelson, Lars, Arnold, Loyd and Joe Stenvold.

Dolores L. Tremblay, 82, Hays, formerly of WaKeeney, died Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at the Kearny County Hospital in Lakin, KS.
She was born June 26, 1932 in rural Victoria, Kansas the daughter of Joseph and Salomia (Rohleder) Dinkel.
She graduated from Victoria High School in 1950. On January 13, 1962 she married Leo E. Tremblay in Hays. He died in 2008. She was a data clerk for Trego County-Lemke Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 1994. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays, former member of Christ the King Catholic Church in WaKeeney, and was a member of the Altar Society Christian Mothers, the Red Hats, and the TCLMH Auxiliary, all of WaKeeney. She loved sewing and quilting, going to auctions, and spending time with her grandchildren and attending their sporting events.
Survivors include two daughters, Jenifer Munoz and husband Jesus of St. Robert, MO, and Julie Dinkel and husband Mark of Garden City, Kansas, four sisters, Lily Meier and Mary Ann Doerfler of Hays, Joanne Steinert and husband Sid of Munjor, KS, and Darlene Pfannenstiel of Shawnee Mission, KS, seven grandchildren, Ellie Stansbury and husband Shaun, Gretchen Albert, Kaitlin Albert, Nicholas Munoz, Alexander Munoz, Seth Dinkel and Sally Dinkel, son in law Jeff Albert of Smith Center, KS, and a sister in law Peggy Dinkel of Englewood, CO.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leo, daughter Joan Albert, brother Kenneth Dinkel, and a sister Patricia Brungardt.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays. Burial will be in the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in WaKeeney. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Monday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 Tuesday, all at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine. A parish vigil service will be at 7:00 pm on Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Trego County Walkathon for Health or to the Mary Elizabeth Maternity Home, in care of the funeral home.

OBITUARY
In "Obituaries from the Dakota Freie Presse" published in the Heritage Review, there is an obituary for Philipp Krauss, son of Philipp Krauss and Charlotte Harr. He was born 15 May 1841 in Worms and died 5 Sep 1927 in Eureka, SD. He was first married in Feb 1860 to Barbara Klundt (from Rohrbach, died Jul 1906) and second married to widow Hoff. He had 5 children from his first marriage and was survived by one daughter. He immigrated in 1886.

ST. PAUL — Harlan J. Pelc, 73, of St. Paul died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2014, at Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Grace Baptist Church in St. Paul. Pastor Stan Gurney will officiate. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery at St. Paul. Peters Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Pelc was born on Sept. 12, 1940, at Lynch, the son of John and Hilda (Holmberg) Pelc.
He was united in marriage to Leah M. “Susie” Thompson on June 27, 1964, at Buena Vista, Colo.
He is survived by his wife, Susie of St. Paul; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Kristin Pelc and Kenneth and Dorothy Pelc, all of St. Paul; a daughter and son-in-law, Marci and Brian Jordan of Burwell; a brother and sister-in-law, Arnold and Jean Pelc of Spencer; and three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Nola Miller of Cushing, Delores Nelson of Gregory, S.D., Doris and Dave Kocian of Butte and Roger Roth of Spencer.
He also leaves to cherish his memory nine grandchildren, Tim Jordan, Bill Jordan, Haylee Jordan, Scott Jordan, DezeRay Pelc, Morgan Pelc, Lukas Pelc, Sarah Pelc and Artina Pelc; a great-granddaughter, Braelin Pelc; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim and Linda Foreman of Buena Vista, Colo.
Harlan grew up on a farm near Butte and attended country schools in that area. As a young man he moved to Buena Vista, Colo., where he worked in a molybdenum mine. It was there that he met and married Susie. In 1966, the couple moved to O’Neill, where he worked for a local farmer, later moving to Spencer where he worked at Spencer Livestock. The family then moved to Butte, where the couple milked cows and did custom haying.
In 1980, the family moved to Worms and he worked for Greenline Equipment in Grand Island. In 1984 they moved to St. Paul, where he worked at Christensen Sand & Gravel. In 1995, he began working for Werner Construction and was still employed with them at the time of his death.
Harlan enjoyed his grandchildren, being outdoors, yard work, cutting and splitting firewood, polka music, going to dances and dearly loved his dog, Jack.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Thomas William Pelc; sister, Lavern Roth; brothers-in-law, Marvin Miller and Merle Nelson; and a nephew, Daniel Kocian.

David B. Hawbaker, 85, of 280 St. Thomas-Edenville Road, St. Thomas, died at 3:35 a.m.. Sunday, Oct. 31, 1993, in Chambersburg Hospital following a brief illness.
Born Feb. 8, 1908, in Welsh Run, he was a son of the late Amos and Elizabeth R. Brechbill Hawbaker.
He was a dairy farmer most of his life.
A member of Brandt's Church of the Brethren, St. Thomas, he was a Sunday school teacher for more than 50 years and a deacon.
His first wife, Carrie M. Dice Hawbaker, died Sept. 18, 1982.
Surviving are his second wife, Verda M. Meyers Hawbaker; two sons, Melvin D. of Marion and David B. Jr. of York; a daughter, Mary Ann (Mrs. Ben) Schaff of Mercersburg; a stepson, Roy a Sollenberger of St. Thomas; five grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; two great-grandsons; two brothers, Ira B. and Roy B., both of Greencastle; and two Sisters, Edna (Mrs. Cornelius) Myers of St. Thomas and Elva (Mrs. Harry) Myers of Chambersburg. A son, two brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.

Elizabeth Hoffer, age 89, of Bismarck, formerly of Turtle Lake, died Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at the Baptist Home in Bismarck.
Funeral Services: 10:30 AM Monday, Nov. 9, 2009; St. Olaf Lutheran Church – rural Turtle Lake, ND; Pastor Randy Emgarten, officiating.
Interment: St. Olaf Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation: 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM Sunday at Goetz Funeral Home in Turtle Lake; Monday, one hour prior to time of service at the church.
Elizabeth was born March 10, 1920 in Lincoln Valley, rural Sheridan County, ND, a daughter to Jacob & Christina (Waltz) Boschee. She attended rural school in Sheridan County.
Elizabeth married Walter Hoffer on March 18, 1939 at Turtle Lake, ND. They made their home on a farm 4 miles north of Turtle Lake for many years. They moved into Turtle Lake in 1980. Her husband Walter passed away in August 1991. Elizabeth continued to live in Turtle Lake until moving to Bismarck in 2007. She enjoyed tending to her garden and growing flowers. She canned much of her produce and shared it with her family and friends. Elizabeth enjoyed crocheting and made many blankets for her grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling and attending auction sales. She was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church for many years.
She is survived by her children, Lillian (Frank) Vogel of Bismarck, Esther (Percy) Tschider of Mandan, Ida (George) Somers of Bismarck, Wilbert Hoffer of Turtle Lake, Rueben (Karen) Hoffer of Minot, Irene (Dennis) Amundson of Princeton, KY, Bernice (James) Schatz of Bismarck, & David (Paulette) Hoffer of Bismarck; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, & great-great grandchildren; one sister, Mary Dockter of Mandan; two sisters-in-law, Verna Hoffer of Hazen, & Evelyn Boschee of Devils Lake; and many nieces & nephews.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband (Walter), one daughter (Edna), three grandchildren (Raymond, Linda, & Duane Klein), two sisters (Mathilda & Martha), & three brothers (Jake, Edward, & Henry).
