Funeral Services for Elmer Heinle, 79, of Mandan, formerly of Hebron will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2015 at First Congregational Church, Hebron with Pastor Marcy Dawson officiating. Burial will follow in the Methodist Cemetery. Visitation for Elmer will be one hour prior to the service.
Elmer passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2015 in Bismarck, ND.
Elmer was born in Glen Ullin, ND, on June 6, 1935, the son of Louise Sayler and William Phillip Heinle. He grew up on a farm south of Glen Ullin, ND. As a young man, Elmer partnered with his brother Oscar to run the family farm. During that time, he moved old school houses onto that farm. Elmer went into the Army for a short time.
Elmer met Rosemary Abbey on a blind date, and they married in 1968. They lived in Hebron, ND, until the late 1980's and then moved to land south of Mandan, ND. Together, they traveled to farm auctions frequently throughout the years and took vacations to California and Arizona to visit family.
Many friends and coworkers called Elmer Red due to his hair. Although his red hair lightened a bit over the years, he did not have any gray hair until he was well into his seventies.
Elmer farmed the family farm until he began working for Northern Construction. Elmer worked for Northern Construction for more than 20 years. He built roads all over the Midwest and wrote his name in some of the on-ramps along I-94. Later in life he traveled the same roads to his beloved casinos for fun. He also built homes in Hebron and Mandan.
Elmer loved to buy old farm equipment and rebuild it. At one time he owned more than 100 wagon wheels. There are also thousands of bird houses throughout the state that we built by Elmer. He enjoyed fishing with his nephew David, and in later years he enjoyed beating his niece Chandra in very competitive games of Connect Four.
Elmer was the youngest of five children. He had one older brother, Oscar Heinle, and three older sisters, Maggie Kuykendall, Bernice Hirning, and Isabell Dick. All of Elmer’s siblings preceded him in death.
Elmer’s sister Maggie moved to California and married Tom Kuykendall, and they raised one daughter. Bernice married Herbert Hirning and raised two children, Tammy and Chandra, near Mott ND. Isabell married Robert Dick, and they had five children: Peggy, Debbie, Pam, David and Fred. Oscar married Helen and resided in Glen Ullin.
Elmer was part of the first generation of his family to be born in America. Elmer’s mother Louise Sayler was born in 1904. She came to America by ship when she was a small child in 1905. Elmer’s maternal grandparents were Gottleib Sayler (dob 9/11/1870) and Sophie Boehler, (dob 7/17/1879). They were married in 1897. His family had moved from Johannestal, Russia, to farm South of Glen Ullin. Elmer’s maternal great-grandparents were George Boehler, and Elizabeth Kost of Johannestal, Russia.
Elmer’s father, William Phillip Heinle, was born in Glen Ullin, ND, in 1898. He farmed the family farm until 1953 when his sons Elmer and Oscar took over. Elmer’s paternal grandparents were Philip Heinle, Jr., and Julia Walter. They were married in 1883 and moved to America - specifically Scotland, SD, in 1884. They moved to Hebron ND in 1885. They were also farmers. Elmer’s paternal great -grandfather was Philip Heinle, Sr., who, according to family lore, escaped the Russian draft by escaping in a wooden barrel across a river on his way to America. The family had moved from Germany to Russia in 1775 in response to Catherine the Great’s efforts to promote European culture in Russia. Who knew we come from a long line of trend setters?
Elmer was great man who loved to work, fish, and spend time with others. Elmer taught us to rely on ourselves first, to expect hard work from ourselves, and to work to be the best that each of us could be. He taught us the value of money, and that happiness does not come from being rich. He taught us to help family and go the extra mile to help someone who is in need. He taught us, along with his brother and sisters, the values of farm life and never to fear a challenge. He bravely faced serious health issues over the years, including a case of West Nile. Through his sheer determination, he worked to regain his mobility and physical strength which would match his feisty personality and sense of independence.

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, George Kyle Riches, passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at the age of eighty-seven.
Kyle was born June 28, 1927 in Salt Lake City to Joseph Clyde Riches and Waldine Zimpelman, the second of three children.
He married his sweetheart and eternal companion, Shirley CarLeah Christensen, on August 11, 1948 in the Logan LDS Temple. Kyle passed four months shy of their sixty-seventh wedding anniversary.
Kyle was a valiant and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He served in many callings, but especially enjoyed the time spent as an Explorer Boy Scout Leader in the Valley View Second Ward.
Kyle participated in weekly sealing sessions for eight years until his body could no longer keep up with his desire to serve.
Kyle saw to it that all of his grandchildren who wanted to serve missions were well outfitted for their missions.
Kyle served our country in WWII as a military policeman in Austria at the end of the war.
Kyle graduated from South High School in 1945 and later he served as student body vice-president at Trade Tech (now known as Salt Lake Community College) and served as the alumni president from 1971-1972.
Kyle's first job was an ice department engineer at Hygeia Ice and helped to build the ice rink in Sugar House.
He worked at Meyer & Welch, a division of Novi, where he installed the first automobile air conditioners. Later, he owned and operated K. & S. Auto Service in Salt Lake.
Kyle inherited Distinctive Drapery, and later, along with two partners he owned and operated SALCO Mfg making custom drapes for projects such as the LDS temples and the Beehive House.
After his retirement from SALCO, he enjoyed driving a school bus for Jordan and Granite school districts.
He loved spending time at his cabin at Bear Lake with his family and did all of the finishing work inside the cabin with his son, sons-in-law, grandsons, and friends. Kyle's posterity have countless fond memories of their time at Bear Lake.
Kyle was the epitome of the definition of a "jack-of-all-trades" and a master of many. He so lovingly shared his time and talents with all those in need.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; children, Kay (Dennis) Larsen, Martin (Dianne) Riches, and Lee (Val) Whitehead; eleven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and one more on the way; sister, Mary Jane Petzar; and sister-in-law, Lois Riches. Preceded in death by parents; brother, Ralf C. Riches; and brother-in-law, George M. Petzar.
The family would like to thank Access Home Health & Hospice, Alta Ridge Assisted Living, and CareSource Home Health & Hospice for the loving and compassionate care they have given to Kyle.
Upon Kyle's request, there will be a visitation held on Sunday, April 12, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South), Sandy.
A private family graveside service will be held on Monday, April 13, 2015 prior to interment in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
Published in the Salt Lake Tribune from April 11 to April 12, 2015.

Husband of Maria Catharina (Zwetzig) Niedens and father of Johann Friedrich Niedens, Johann Georg Niedens, Johann Heinrich Niedens, Heinrich Jacob (1876-1877), Catharine Elisabetha Niedens, Gottfried Georg Niedens, Heinrich Jacob Niedens (born 1885), Georg Jakob Niedens, and possibly others not yet identified.
As I recall it seems Grandpa (Georg Jakob) said his dad was killed when Grandpa was 4 years-old. That would have been 1890 or 1891, depending on the what time of year it was. We now know for sure that it was before October of 1893 as that's when his 45 year-old widow was betrothed to marry a 40 year-old widower, Johann Georg Treise.

Mary Ann Bader (Friesz), 81, Mandan, died April 14, 2015 at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 17 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Mandan with the Rev. Shane Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at Mandan Union Cemetery. Everyone is invited to attend a luncheon at the Mandan Eagles following internment at Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 16 at Bismarck Funeral Home with a rosary/parish vigil at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Mary Ann was born on December 11, 1933 in Mott, to Martin and Monica (Messer) Friesz. She was rasied and educated in Mott and graduated from Mott High School. She married Stanley Bader on July 3, 1952 in Mott, ND.
Christian Faith and community service were important parts of Mary Ann’s life. She was a member of the Catholic Daughter's of America and a long-time member of St. Joseph’s Parish.
She was self-taught at many things, including learning English as German was her first language. The enormous responsibility of raising a large family was all encompassing but she also had numerous talents and abilities and was a very gifted individual with the inner strength of a Warrior. She was a very resourceful individual - nothing went to waste. She was an amazing seamstress and enjoyed sewing and crocheting, both of which were self-taught. Being outside in her garden or flower bed was an enjoyment for her and at the same time could also be therapeutic. She loved canning and cooking. When the family moved to Mandan she developed an interest in ceramics and spent many hours doing this. She enjoyed playing bingo and won a cruise that allowed her and her husband to take a trip of a lifetime.
She was an avid reader and gaining knowledge was very important to her - crossword puzzles were part of her daily routine. The words "I can't" were not part of her vocabulary and that is how she accomplished many tasks and hurdles in her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband Stan; her parents; two brothers and a sister.
