It was a 2 week journey. Nine of their 14 children died in Russia and the other five came to America. Michael and his family came first to Scotland, SD to their relatives (Matthew and Maria Sayler) - Matthew being a brother to Michael and Maria being a sister to Carolina. From there they went to North Dakota where they homesteaded in McLean County, 7 miles NW of Garrison, ND. Carolina Sayler died in 1905 from a broken rib which had punctured her lung. Mr. Sayler remarried, person unknown. Michael and his wife Rosa are found in the 1910 McLean County, ND Census with one child, Charles age 21 born Russia.
