www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=20401233Simon Schwind was the son of Simon Schwind (born about 1827) and Anna Maria Elizabeth Schneider (1821-1871). He arrived at Ellis Island and New York City on April 5, 1886. Simon was 27. He was accompanied by his wife, Christina (who he married in 1882); his two daughters, Christina and Katherina; and his wife's parents. The family travelled on the ship Werra out of Bremmen, Germany. They were from the German colony of Glueckstal, South Russia. For a time Simon lived with his family on a farm outside of Wishek, North Dakota. The couple eventually had 14 children in all (one daughter died in Russia at two months). The 13 remaining children all grew to adulthood and had large families of their own. Simon Schwind’s second wife was Katharina Brandner (Wittmeier) a sister of Christina. She died on April 1, 1922. In 1923 Simon moved to Wishek where he married Jakobina Holzwarth (Bauer). She died in 1938. From that time on he lived with his son-in-law Christ Vossler. Simon was one of the founders of the Reformed New Kassel church. The St. Petersburg Lutheran Evangelical Archives records that Simon had a twin brother, Johann, who died with his parents in Russia.

Twin Boys at George Grimme Home; One Dies
Twin boys were born to Mr. and Mrs. George A. Grimme last Friday morning, January 8, both arriving before the doctor who had been summoned could battle his way through the snow drifts to the Grimme farm home. Each of the babies weighed eight pounds.
One of the boys died about an hour after birth, and a funeral service was held Monday afternoon at the home of the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Grimme, Sr., in Tyndall, with Rev. E. O Hessel officiating.
Mrs. Grimme and the surviving boy are reported to be getting along fairly well at this writing. There are now six children in the Grimme family, three boys and three girls. The oldest girl, Viola, is a student in the local high school.
