Esther Meidinger, 99, Ellendale, N.D., died Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009, at Oakes Community Hospital, Oakes, N.D.
Esther Elizabeth Brandner was born Oct. 25, 1910, in rural Zeeland, McIntosh County, North Dakota, the daughter of Fred and Elizabeth (Merkel) Brandner. She married Rueben J. Meidinger on Feb. 1, 1933, in Zeeland. They farmed in the Zeeland and Wheatland, N.D., areas. In 1949, they purchased a farm southwest of Ellendale. They moved into Ellendale in 1978. He died in 1979. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Ellendale, the Sunshine Homemakers Club and the Senior Citizens Center. She enjoyed quilting, attending circles at church, gardening and playing cards.
She is survived by three daughters, Loretta (Loren) Schulz, Edgeley, N.D., Madella (Harold) Scheffert, Guelph, N.D., and Betty Martin, Ellendale; two sons, Earl and Don (Cyd), both Ellendale; a sister, Freida Grace, Bismarck, N.D.; a daughter-in-law, Judy Vasvick, Ellendale; 19 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Howard; a daughter, Delyne; her parents; 14 siblings; two sons-in-law, Dale Martin and Les Heinrich; and a grandson, Brad Meidinger.
Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Zion Lutheran Church, Ellendale, with the Rev. Tyson Labuhn officiating.
Prayer service: 7:30 p.m. today, Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale.
Visitation: 2 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral chapel.
Burial: Ellendale City Cemetery, Ellendale.
