MISSOULA - Verna Betty Flaig, 84, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Friday, July 15, 2011, at Community Medical Center. Verna was born to Ludwig and Emma Ruff on June 18, 1927, in Lehr, N.D., the fourth of five children.
On Oct. 24, 1948, she married Benjamin Frederick Flaig of Fredonia, N.D., and their union produced three children, Ben Flaig (Sue) of Kalispell, Bryan Flaig (Kerri) of Missoula and Cindy Breckenridge (Steve) of Missoula, together with eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren (thus far).
Verna was a professional homemaker and the ultimate stay-at-home mom. A devoted wife, loving mother, and fabulous cook, she enjoyed any family gathering - whether it be at their Missoula home or Flathead Lake cabin. In her spare time she enjoyed shopping with her daughter or visiting with friends, and remained actively involved with CMC Volunteer Services and the Missoula County Extension Homemaker's Council for many years.
Verna was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Elroy, Vernon, and Ervin and sister Agnes, but is survived by her husband, children and extended family.
She was a farm girl at heart, who was proud of her German heritage and will deeply be missed.
Arrangements are being handled by Sunset Memorial Crematory Cemetery & Funeral Home, with a memorial service and reception to be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the CMC Women's and Newborn Center capital campaign.
We also wish to thank Village Health Care Center for their assistance to Verna over the past three years and to recognize Community Medical Center for providing comfort care during her final days. May she rest in peace.
