From the Dyersville (IA) Commerical - Frank Kruse Died Here On Thursday - Death Came After Brief Illness of Few Days; Buried Monday
Death last Thursday climaxed an illness of only a few days and claimed the life of Mr. Frank Kruse of West Dyersville, well known local citizen and former resident of Petersburg. Mr. Kruse, who was approximately 52 years of age, had been in failing health for several years, but was seriously ill for only a few days and the news of his death came with a startling sadness to his many friends here and at Petersburg and cast a pall of sorrow over the entire community.
Mr. Kruse was born on a farm at Petersburg on October 3, 1881, and lived there his entire life until about twelve years ago when he quit farming and moved to Dyersville, since which time he had resided continuously in this city.
Mr. Kruse's early education was received in the rural schools and the SS Peter and Paul school at Petersburg. His marriage to Miss Frances Engelken, his sorrowing wife who remains with seven children to survive him, occurred on Jan. 15, 1913, in SS Peter and Paul church at Petersburg.
Surviving children are as follows: Leander, Lawrence, Gilbert, Virginia, Mildred, Delores and Donald, all at home. Two brothers, Henry Kruse and Herman Kruse, both of Petersburg, also survive.
Deceased was widely known and had a wide circle of friends to whom his passing will mean a distict loss. Kindness was the dominating character in the life of Mr. Kruse and he never failed to make friends of all with whom he came in contact. His chief interest in life centered in his home and he was a devoted husband and father whose loss can never be repaired. In his religious affiliation he was a devout member of the Roman Catholic church all his life and adhered strictly to its teachings. The exemplary life he led is reflected in the lives of his children. He had the comfort of the last rites of his Holy Religion before he died. To the immediate members of the Kruse family we join in extending heartfelt sympathy in this their hour of sorrow.
Funeral services were held on Monday morning at 9 o'clock from the family home to St. Francis church, where Rev. J.B. Herbers, pastor, sang the Requiem high mass for the repose of his soul. Interment followed in the St. Francis cemetery. The funeral cortege was very large, many from Petersburg also attending. Pallbearers were Messrs. H.C. Leopold, Frank Holscher, Ed Cunningham, Albert Drexler, Charles Goerdt and A.F. Rahe.
Mr. Kruse's father preceded him in death about eleven months ago.
