Per her request, there will be a private family celebration of her life. Inurnment will be at the Hopewell Cemetery in Burr, NE. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. Doris was born July 3, 1918 at Sterling, NE to Ray and Lula (Blankenship) Lorenz, the youngest of four daughters. She graduated from Cook High School. She married Darrel Genzlinger October 5, 1938 and they ran grocery stores in Lincoln and Auburn before Darrel completed his degree in education and coaching from Peru State College. They then moved to Plymouth, NE where Darrel taught and coached and she cooked for and boarded teachers where they lived. They moved to Beatrice, NE in 1952 where Darrel taught and was head basketball coach and she worked in various retail businesses. In 1965 they moved to Scottsbluff where Darrel was the Junior High Principal and she worked part time in retail. After Darrel's death she moved to Leisure Living and in 2007 moved to The Residency. Doris was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She loved dancing, playing cards, and growing flower gardens. She enjoyed decorating for every holiday. She always looked forward to the family gathering around the Fourth of July to celebrate her birthday. Survivors include her children, Pete Genzlinger and wife Sharon of Lincoln and Linda Abernethy of Mitchell; grandchildren, Loree Genzlinger Kohrs (Scott) of Highlands Ranch, CO, Jennifer Genzlinger Bank (Steve) of Lincoln, Doug (Kristin) Abernethy of Colorado Springs, CO, and Ginny Abernethy Ostdiek (Jerry) of Gering; great grandchildren, Olivia, Alexandrea, and Ashton Kohrs, Justin, Grace, and Sam Bank, Mara, Grace, and Ian Abernethy, and Josh Swanson, Emily, and Jackson Ostdiek. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Darrel; three sisters; and son in law, Dan.
