ohn Henry Borchers,81, well known retired farmer, and resident of Platte county since 1890, died at 10:30 a.m. today at his home nine miles northwest of Platte Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2p.m. at Grand Prarie Lutheran Church with Rev. M.G. Moore officiating and preaching the English sermon, and Rev. Herman H. Goede, the German.
Born in Apen, Oldenburg, Niedersachen, Germany on Jan. 29th,1861, to Johann F.G. & Anna (Eilers) Borchers, and christened on Feb.24th, 1861. He attended school and grew to manhood, and served in the German Army from 1882 to 1885. He set sail from Bremen, Germany in May of 1886 with his brother Gerhard, aboard the S.S. Amerika, arriving in New York on June 24th, 1886. He first settled at Defiance, Iowa, working as a farmhand. He later moved to Platte County, purchasing a farm and marrying Gesina Mindrup on Dec. 20th,1891. They had fifteen children. Eleven still living at the time of his death. He became a naturalized citizen on May 21st,1906.
