Lars Larsen was born in Bergen, Norway, April 28, 1871 and departed this life in Charlotte Swift Hospital, Manhattan, Kansas, April 4, 1934, at the age of 62 years, 11 months and 4 days.
He was baptised in the Lutheran Church at Bergen in his early youth. He was one of of nine children in the family, one child died in infancy and two sisters, Martha and Carrie, and two brothers, Sure and Ole, preceded him in death. His mother died in 1899 his father in 1910.
In 1885, When a lad of fifteen, Lars came to this country with Mrs. August Larson and settled near Norway, Kansas. He stayed with the Throwbeck family and went to school for a short time and later worked for P. O. Larson. Later he worked for Michael Thompson. A short time later he went north of Sandia and worked for Henry Otto, and for two years after that Mr. Larsen rented the Otto farm. After his
farming experience he went to Belleville and learned the barber trade.
Following this, he bought the barber shop in Courtland from Geo. Litsinger in 1895 and ran this shop until 1913. In 1892, at the age of 21, he visited his old home in Norway.
May 11, 1899 he was united in marriage to Dora M. Bowersox. To this union two children were born, Ruth M. Yates of Strong City,, Kansas, and Irl R. of the home, who has been associated with his father in his stock business. Mr. Larsen is survivived by his wife, his son and daughter, two grandsons, one brother and two sisters. Interment was made in the Courtland cemetery.
