He attended the county school and farmed with his father. He worked as an aircraft sheet metal worker for Boeing in Seattle from 1941-42. He enlisted in the Army Air Force during WWII and served for three years as a mechanic repairing and servicing airplanes in England, Germany, France and Brazil. Discharged Dec. 1945, as a Staff Sgt., he married Florence Fischer, June 5, 1946. He farmed the family farm until 1955, when he moved to Portland with his family. He worked for Temp Control and for Interstate Mechanical Contractors for 40 years as a warehouse and shipping supervisor. Never far from his farming roots, he loved gardening and was a skilled craftsman. Neighbors, family and friends benefited from his generous sharing of produce, flowers, tools and skills. He and Florence were always active in their church community. He was actively involved in the lives of his children and grandchildren who will miss his wisdom, compassion and humor. He is preceded in death by his wife, Florence (2000); and his son, Donald (2005). He is survived by two sisters; two brothers; daughters, Dian Poujade (Fred), Janice Wahl Bowers (Richard); and son, Jeffrey (Genevieve). He has seven grandchildren, Jereby Wahl, Kari Drobesh (David), Amanda Bowers, Grant Poujade (Tara), Kate Bowers (Andrew), Ethan Wahl and Jason Wahl; and four great-grandchildren. Family burial service will be held at Willamette National Cemetery.
