Funeral services for Mrs. Libbie Steinhoff were conducted Friday after noon at the German City church, Rev. W. W. Kramme officiating. Mrs. Steinhoff, who had been a resident of Smithland for nearly seventy-five years, passed away Wednesday, March 13, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Unkel, of near Smithland at the age of 81 years, 8 months, and 13 days.
Mrs. Steinhoff, nee Gambs, was born June 30, 1858, at Woodsfield, Ohio. She was baptized in infancy. During her early life, in the year 1865 her parents moved to Smithland where she resided the rest of her years. On April 14, 1884, she was united in Holy Wedlock to William Steinhoff. This union was blessed with four children. Mr. Steinhoff preceded her in death March 7, 1929.
Mrs. Steinhoff enjoyed good health until recent years, when her physical strength began to wane. She was a faithful wife and mother, rearing her children in the fear of the Lord. She had always taken an active interest in the German City church and was one of its early members. Her interest in the Kingdom of God was ever evident by her whole hearted participation in the work of the church.
She leaves to mourn her departure four children, Mrs. Vern Beebe of Flandreau, South Dakota, Mrs. John Unkel, Ralph and Casper Steinhoff, all of Smithland; one sister, Mrs. Pauline Hills of Chico, California; one brother, L.N. Gambs of Smithland, two daughters-in-law, two sons-in-law, seventeen grandchildren, and five great grandchildren, a host of other relatives and friends.
Interment, under direction of Willman Funeral Home, was in the German City cemetery. Pall bearers were John Steinhoff, Jake Steinhoff, George Rose, Ed Rose, John Weber, and Will Steinhoff. Wilma Johnson, John H. Bale, and E. W. Persinger sang "Rock of Ages', "Jesus, Lover of My Soul", and "Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me", accompanied by Miss Kate Kelsey at the piano.
The many friends extend sympathy to the bereaved family.
