George Barnhardt Zimpelman Jr., 83, passed away Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 2009, to be with the One born that day.
Funeral: Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Family Catholic Church. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Thompson's Harveson and Cole Funeral Home.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Catholic Charities, 2701 Burkett Road, Fort Worth, Texas 76105.
George was born July 1, 1926, in Fort Worth, son of the late Frances Polemus and George Barnhardt Zimpelman Sr. A veteran of World War II, he served in the United States Navy. He began his apprenticeship at General Engineering, the company his father started, ultimately moving up to become plumbing superintendent. After 43 years of service to General Engineering, he retired in 1991.
George married his beautiful Patricia on his birthday in 1950. The lived in Fort Worth, where they had four children, and celebrated 59 years of marriage this past summer. Holy Family Catholic Church was his church home.
Known for his wit, sense of humor and storytelling, he was the life of the party and was endeared to numerous friends. As a member of the Rose Society, he developed his hobby of cultivating roses and gardening. His favorite love and pastime was working at his beloved lake lot in Granbury to make it a haven of memories for him, his wife, family and friends to cherish.
Survivors: His wife, Patricia; children, Belinda Whiddon and her husband, Robert, of Fort Worth, Gloria Young and her husband, Ronny, of Bedford, Larry Zimpelman and his wife, Debbie, of Fort Worth, and Gary Zimpelman and his fiancee, Sharon DeCubellis, of Fort Worth; seven beautiful grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
