Funeral services for the late Mrs. Samuel Wirtz were held on Friday afternoon, March 30, at Gospel Tabernacle and were attended by a number of relatives and friends of the deceased. The services were conducted by the Rev. J.C. Crawford. "The sermon of the pastor was found in Isaiah 38:17, the text of which was selected by Mrs. Wirtz, herself. The Gospel Tabernacle quartet sang hymns of family selection. Interment was at Bass Point.
Mrs. Chrischona Geasin Wirtz was born February 22nd, 1841 at Basel, Switzerland and departed this life at the home of her daughter on the morning of March 28, 1923, being 32 year, one month and 6 days of age. She had been ill for some time and death was due to heart trouble and other complication.
At the age of fourteen years she joined the German Reformed church and was a faithful member until twenty years ago when she united with the Gospel Tabernacle, of which faith she kept until death.
She was united in marriage to Samuel Wirtz and came to America in 1873. To this union were born six children: Adolph, Samuel, Jacob, Emma, Fred and John, and one step son, Ed of Des Moines. Her husband and two sons, Fred and John preceded her to death.
