Amasa and his brother, Franklin, were both chairmakers in Gardner, Worcester, Massachusetts, in 1850.
œAmasa Eaton, an old and highly respected resident of this city, was found dead in bed this morning. He had passed away, peacefully, during the night. His age was 82 years.
œMr. Eaton had dnot been in good health for several years, his infirmities being due, however, to advanced age. He had been under the treatment of a physician for some time. He was not confined to his home, having been down town yesterday.
œMr. Eaton came to California from Massachusetts, his native state, about forty years ago, locating in this city, where he has since resided, most of the time at the residence on North First street. He has not been actively engaged in business, but has had a number of important interests in local institutions. For a number of years he was a large stockholder and director of the Electric Light Company. He was a stockholder and director of the Bank of San Jose. For a number of years his son, Alfred Eaton, has been connected with that bank. He was interested in the printing firm of A.C. Eaton and Company.
œThe deceased leaves, besides his widow, a daughter, Belle, and two sons, Alfred, of this city, and Clarence, who is an inspector in the office of the Board of Public Works, San Francisco.
Å“The funeral will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. from the family residence.Â
