  G-Bachmann-wwwrootsweb.ancestry: State legislator, governor, United States senator, œJames T. Morehead was another longtime advocate of emancipation and colonization.œ In the 1830 census, James was living in Warren Co., KY (he was a state representative), with two sons under 5 (these would be John and Joseph), a daughter between 5 and 10 (Lucy), his wife (Susan A. Roberts), and another female between 30 and 40 (probably a housekeeper). In the 1840 census, James was living in Frankfort (as President of the KY Board of Internal Improvements) with his new wife, Lavinia; his first child with Lavinia; his children: Lucy, Robert and Joseph from his first marriage, as well as an unknown male child aged 5-10. In September, 1850, Senator Morehead was living in Covington with his second wife, Lavinia, and their children: Espy, Henry, and Francis. Albert had not been born yet. œHe was one of the most able lawyers of the state, scholarly in his attainments, careful and painstaking as a writer. He gave much attention to matters pertaining to the early growth of the state, and made many valuable contributions in the nature of biography and adventure of the historic pioneer settlers. He gave considerable time to literary pursuits and by his efforts in that direction did much in giving permanency to the early history of his state. . . œAn announcement that he was to speak, never failed to fill the lobbies and galleries with spectators. As a speaker, he is remarkably fluent and energetic, with a manner eminently graceful and dignified.
