Elmer Roland Zimbelman was born Jan 31, 1917 in Cheyenne County, Kan. He was the oldest son of Peter Zimbelman and Margaret Croissant Zimbelman. He was on of six children.
After graduating from elementary school, he worked on the family farm.
On Nov 5, 1941, he married Alma Walter. To this union, a daughter, Rita, was born.
After purchasing a farm southwest of St Francis, they lived and farmed there until spring 1980, when they moved into St Francis.
In 1982, Elmer retired from farming and enjoyed working in their yard. He also enjoyed going for his daily walks, sometimes stopping at the coffee shop to visit with friends.
He was a loyal member of the United Methodist Church in 1942.
After a long illness, Elmer died at the Good Samaritan Village on June 26, 2009.
Preceding him in death are his parents and his brothers, Freddie and Ruben.
He leaves to mourn him his wife, Alma; daughter, Rita and her husband, Stephen Prokopiak; and one grandson, Stephen Christopher Prokopiak. Also left to mourn him are his brother Albert E Zimbelman and wife, Lucille of Michigan; his sister Ruth and husband, Clarence Zimbelman of Broomfield, Colo., and his sister Emma Lubbers of Greeley, Colo., as well as four nieces and three nephews.
A funeral service was held on June 29, at Knodel Funeral Home in St Francis with Reverend Morita Truman officiating.
