Citation Needed - SYNOPSIS: Staff Sergeant Herbert J. Woehl (ASN: 39230452), United States Army, was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with the 160th Infantry Regiment, 40th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces on 9 May 1945. Staff Sergeant Woehl's intrepid actions, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty at the cost of his life, exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 40th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.

OBITUARY
Staff Sgt. Herbert J. Woehl was killed May 9, 1945, on Negros, an island in the southern Philippines, the war department recently informed his mother, Mrs. John J. Rudolph of Napoleon. Staff Sgt. Woehl had been wounded twice, in early February a slight wound on his right leg by a Jap hand grenade and again February 22 by mortar fire. Born November 8, 1917, at Wishek he came to Napoleon with his mother, Mrs. Woehl, when she married Mr. Rudolph in 1919. Herbert resided in that vicinity until 1939, when he went to California to work. He enlisted in April 1941 at Los Angeles. He was stationed in Hawaii for two years or more before going to the Philippines..
