PIERRE - David Huft, 63, Pierre, died Friday in St. Mary's Hospital, Pierre.
Mr. Huft was born Jan. 16, 1927, in Bowdle. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the Philippines. He married Ester Job on Sept. 5, 1948, in Eureka. They farmed near Bowdle until 1950 when he became involved in the construction business, working in Minnesota, South Dakota, North Dakota, Iowa and Wisconsin. In 1956 he moved to Pierre and was involved in the construction of the Oahe Dam. He worked for Chet's Standard from 1961 to 1970 and the Peavey Lumber Yard from 1970 to 1982. He was a member of the American Legion and the Pierre Stroke Club.
Survivors include his wife; one son, David, Pierre; one daughter, Michele Arends, Hills, Minn.; three grandchildren; three brothers, Jacob and Henry, both of Bowdle; and Philip, Roscoe; and four sisters: Mary Sandmeier, Bowdle; Otilla Eisenbeisz, Aberdeen; Helen Bieber, McLaughlin; and Josephine Schmidtgall, Mobridge.
Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Grand Avenue Wesleyan Church, Pierre, with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Pierre.
Visitation will be today from 3 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service beginning at 7:30 p.m., in Hofmeister Funeral Chapel, Pierre.
