    Lawrence F Kruse enlisted in the Marine Corps 29 July, 1942 from Dyersville, Iowa. Recruited in a Commisioning program to attend college while being carried on the rolls as an enlisted reserve in an inactive status carried on the rolls of the Platoon Leaders unit, 9th Marine Reserve District, NTS Great Lakes, Illinois.
    4 October, 1942 assigned active duty in K Company, 14th Candidates Class, Marine Corps Schools, MCB Quantico Virginia. 15 December, 1942 commissioned as a Marine Corps 2nd Lieutenant and assigned to the Reserve Officer Class (ROC), MCB Quantico Virginia. During February, 1943 assigned to Marine Barracks, Camp Dunlap, Niland, CA. During June, 1943 assigned to the 22nd Replacement Battalion, MCB Camp Elliott, CA.
    1 July, 1943 embarked SS Bloemontein at San Diego for movement overseas. Upon arrival in Wellington, New Zealand assigned to L Company, 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marines, 2nd Marine Division at Camp Russell.
    28 October 1943 embarked USS Arthur Middleton (APA-25) at Wellington, New Zealand. 7-14 November, 1943 landing rehearsals at Efate, New Hebrides. 20 November, 1943 landed on Beach Red One Tarawa and participated in combat operations until 24 November, 1943.
    8 December, 1943 arrived at Hilo, Hawaii based at Camp Tarawa near Kamuela. During December, 1943 promoted to 1st Lieutenant. 1 January, 1944 transferred to K Company, 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marines, 2nd Marine Division.
    11 May, 1944 embarked Naval Vessel. 12-19 May, 1944 landing rehearsals in Hawaiian waters. 20-25 May, 1944 in Pearl Harbor. 15 June, 1944 landed Beach Red Two Saipan D-Day and participated in combat operations Operations until Killed in Action 8 July, 1944.
    Next of Kin: Mother, Mrs Frances Kruse, 416 East Victoria Street, Dyersville, Iowa. Father Frank Kruse (1881-1933).
    Initially buried in the 4th Marines Division Cemetery on Saipan.
    17 March, 1949 permanent burial in Honolulu, Hawaii.
