Jerry Lee Glanz was born September 22, 1952, to Joseph Henry and Marcella Catherine (Ebbers) Glanz at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, where Joseph was stationed with the United States Marine Corps. He was the first of six children. Jerry went to join our Savior on May 31, 2007.
Jerry and his parents moved to the New Haven community near Fleming, Colorado in 1954 and into Yuma in 1958, where Jerry was raised. Jerry was involved in scouting as a young boy and enjoyed spending his summers playing baseball. He attended Yuma public schools, graduating with the class of 1971. Jerry continued his formal education at Graceland University, Lamoni, Iowa; Kearney State College, Kearney, Nebraska; and Wichita State University, Wichita, Kansas. During junior high and high school he played football, basketball and ran track. His first jobs were working with his dad at Joe’s Enco and Foxhovens, learning the importance of good customer service, which Jerry continued to provide wherever he worked.
Jerry was baptized on May 5, 1954 at the New Haven Methodist Church in Fleming, Colorado and was a member of the Yuma United Methodist Church where he was confirmed on March 30, 1969. In August 1973 Jerry married Shelley Buchanan. Jerry and Shelley dissolved their marriage in 1980.
After graduation Jerry worked for Foxhovens in Sterling, Colorado and then for Golden Plains traveling to New Mexico and Texas constructing gas pumping stations. From 1980 to 1982 Jerry worked in Yuma as an in-house quadriplegic attendant for Greg Richards, a job he found very rewarding. In 1982, Jerry went to work for his uncle, Dean Bradney and cousin, David Bradney at Dundy County Processors in Benkelman, Nebraska as a meat cutter. In 1988 in need of a summer job, Jerry headed to Wichita Kansas to work in the parts department for the John Deere dealer where his brother, Randy was working. That summer job turned into a full time job that lasted for the next fifteen years. Jerry returned to Yuma and in 2004 started working for Shop-All where he worked until his death.
Jerry was a very proud uncle and was his nieces and nephews #1 fan. He loved to watch them no matter what sport they were participating in and followed their teams all over the state. He was always there to cheer them on, win or lose.
Jerry is survived by his parents, two brothers and sister-in-laws, three sisters and two brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends [survivors names omitted].
Jerry was preceded in death by his grandparents, Henry and Edith Glanz and George and Catherine Ebbers.
The funeral service was held Monday, June 4, 2007 at 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church with Rev. Ed Bullock and Pastor Terry W. Douglass officiating. Interment followed at the Yuma Cemetery. Funeral arrangements handled by Baucke Funeral Services.—Yuma Pioneer, Thursday, June 7, 2007, pg. 8. (Submitted by PassingTime)
